We've been meaning to post this for months, but kept finding more "places" to feature and were never able to narrow it down. Obviously it was crying out to be a ongoing series instead! Maybe you've noticed the preponderance of map and aerial photo related posts, but in case you didn't already know, we love love love maps and have "wasted" entire days just exploring google maps.
The topographic patterns in nature are fascinating enough on their own, but when they're combined with man's relentless desire for everything to be orthogonal, amazing things happen. Patterns collide and beautiful, complex new ones emerge. The most fascinating spots are where the actual collisions occur, where both patterns are understood and the contrast makes each more powerful than when they are alone.
